Dear friends and wine enthusiasts,

We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Franciacorta Restaurant Week at Picnic! From June 1st to June 15th, we invite you to join us in celebrating the exquisite charm of Franciacorta, Italy’s premier sparkling wine. Throughout these two weeks, we will be serving Franciacorta by the glass and bottle, offering you the chance to indulge in this luxurious wine right here at Picnic. To kick off the festivities, we are hosting a complimentary tasting event tomorrow. Plus, don’t miss our special Franciacorta & Oysters ticketed event on the 14th. For more details, visit our events page.

Franciacorta, often hailed as the “Champagne of Italy,” is a sparkling wine from the Brescia province in Lombardy. This wine stands out for its traditional method of production, a meticulous process that echoes the craftsmanship found in the world’s finest sparkling wines. The region’s vineyards, nestled between Lake Iseo and the city of Brescia, produce grapes that contribute to the wine’s distinctive and elegant profile.

The journey of Franciacorta began in 1957 when Guido Berlucchi introduced a white wine named Pinot di Franciacorta. This marked the beginning of a new era, leading to the production of the first sparkling Franciacorta in 1961 by Franco Ziliani. The immediate success of these wines paved the way for the region’s rise to prominence. By 1967, Franciacorta had earned its DOC status, and in 1995, it was elevated to DOCG, Italy’s highest classification for quality wines.

Franciacorta’s regulations are stringent, ensuring that every bottle meets the highest standards. The grapes—primarily Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Bianco—are harvested from strictly delimited vineyards. The wine must undergo a minimum aging process, with non-vintage varieties aging for at least 25 months and vintage varieties for 37 months. This aging process, combined with the region’s unique terroir, results in a wine that is both complex and refined.

During Franciacorta Week at Picnic, you will have the opportunity to experience this exceptional wine in various settings. Our kickoff tasting event will allow you to sample different expressions of Franciacorta, guided by the expertise of Adam Segar from Adya Global. On June 14th, our Franciacorta & Oysters event promises an exquisite pairing of this sparkling wine with fresh oysters and ceviche, enhancing the wine’s crisp acidity and vibrant flavors.

Franciacorta is not just a wine; it’s a celebration of tradition, quality, and the art of winemaking. Join us at Picnic to celebrate Franciacorta Restaurant Week and discover why this Italian gem is cherished by wine lovers around the world.

Cheers to new adventures and sparkling moments!

Warm regards,
Liz
