Join us for the Opening Reception of a new Featured Artist and Gallery!

Emily Michelle is a Chicago-based artist who creates collages that portray the intersection of queer identity and abstraction. This show features themes that explore the use of metaphor and humor in art, the anxiety of living as a queer woman under late-stage capitalism, and the inherent absurdity of unrelenting “unprecedented times.”

Stop by to meet and greet the artist over a glass of something nice and kick off her residency in the gallery!

Artist Bio
Originally from Pittsburgh, Emily Michelle is a collage artist and pop culture and travel writer who now lives in Chicago with her wife and two cats. Her work explores themes of queer identity, feminism, and political satire. She started collaging at the end of 2023 at the insistence of her best friend, who gave her over two years’ worth of old New Yorkers as a way to help manage her mental health, and she hasn’t been able to stop cutting and gluing things since. Her collage materials include recycled fabric and magazines, vintage wrapping paper, travel guides, religious literature (but in a subversive way), and random objects found in the homes of family and friends.
