The Art of the Pause
By Liz Ahearn | May 1, 2025
May is a month of quiet transformation. The days grow longer, the trees burst into bloom, and everything seems to exhale after the long stretch of winter and early spring. At Picnic, May always feels like an invitation to slow down, take it in, and make space for the things that truly matter.
As I prepare to lead a group of travelers through Sicily—winding from the slopes of Mount Etna to the shores of Marsala—I’m reminded of the power of the pause. When we pause, we see more. We feel more. We reconnect with what’s meaningful. And we remember that life isn’t just about the hustle. It’s about presence, joy, and connection.
This month, we’re celebrating all kinds of meaningful pauses: the kind you take with a glass of wine at the end of the day, the kind you take with friends at a table under the stars, and the kind you take when you recognize that your health—mental, physical, and emotional—needs tending.

May is Oregon Wine Month, and as someone born and raised in Oregon, this celebration is close to my heart. Our wine of the month is a light and lively Pinot Noir from Oregon’s Willamette Valley—perfect chilled, and perfect for sipping with friends as the sun sets later each evening.
It’s also Women’s Health Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. These themes matter to us. We believe in joy, in nourishment, and in creating space to care for yourself and others. That’s why for Mother’s Day, we’re honoring not only moms but all the people who support and nurture others—with all-day happy hour pricing and a warm, open invitation to gather.
We’re keeping things simple this May as we focus on travel and connection, but you can still count on our weekly wine tastings every

Thursday and live music every Friday night at Picnic After Dark. Come as you are, and stay awhile.
Whether you’re raising a glass in Sicily, Oregon, or right here in Chicago, this is your reminder to pause, breathe, and celebrate the good.
Cheers to spring, to women, to mental health, and to this beautiful, messy life.
