The Day Everything Changed
By Liz Ahearn | December 24, 2024
Are you stuck in a life that feels like a never-ending grind? I was. As a financial consultant, I worked endless hours, traveling for business but never for pleasure. My health, happiness, and passions were sidelined by stress, deadlines, and the pursuit of “success.” But everything changed during a 3 ½ week trip to Italy—a trip that wasn’t just an escape but the beginning of a new life.
Halfway through a cycling tour along Puglia’s stunning coastline, I received devastating news: my ex-boyfriend had been killed in a motorcycle accident. Just hours earlier, as I rode along the shimmering blue waters, I’d been deep in thought about him—reflecting on our time together, the good and the bad, and how much he would’ve loved that ride. It felt surreal, almost as if his spirit had been with me during those moments.
The days that followed were a blur of mourning and beauty. I pedaled through olive groves and along dramatic coastal cliffs, surrounded by Italy’s breathtaking landscapes yet consumed by grief. The beauty of my surroundings clashed with the sadness in my heart, but somehow, they worked together to spark something in me. I began to see life differently—not as a series of obligations but as a fleeting gift to be cherished. I promised myself I would no longer take life for granted.
That moment was my turning point. Since then, I’ve redefined what success means, building a business and a life that prioritize purpose, connection, and adventure. Every year, I return to Italy—not just to explore its beauty but to reconnect with the lessons it taught me. Through Picnic Wine Adventures, I now lead wine and travel experiences that inspire others to pause, reflect, and create their own moments of transformation.
If this resonates with you, I invite you to join me. Life is short—and far too precious to waste.
